Getting Here
Air
Melbourne's international & domestic airport is located at Tullamarine, which is 22 KM from the city and is the country's second busiest airport. The Airport operates 24 hours a day.
Australia is visited by all major international airlines. Flights between Europe, America, and Asia to Melbourne & Australia take upwards of 22 hours and if you incur any delays in transit expect your trip to take up to 30 hours.
While most international airlines have direct air routes to Melbourne most flights do stop in Sydney. Melbourne is a short flight from Sydney taking only about 1 hour. You will find that customs and immigration is quicker to process here in Melbourne than Sydney and the International and Domestic airlines operate from a single Terminus.
Road From Sydney - the main road to Victoria if you're coming from Sydney is the Hume Highway. This trip can take around 9 to 11 hours or longer if you decide to stop in some of the country towns along the way. Another alternative route is along the Princes Highway, which takes you along the coast and takes a little longer, up to 15 hours with regular rest stops. This route provides some spectacular scenery with plenty of seaside places to stop over and explore.
Driving from Adelaide to Melbourne offers two routes, the most direct being the Western Highway, which is approx 8 hours drive, or you can take the coastal Princes Highway. The coastal route is the most picturesque but a little slower as takes you along the windy Great Ocean Road where you will get to see some of the most beautiful natural coastline of Australia.
For the adventurous coming from Brisbane the most direct route would be along the Newell Highway coming in under a short 1900km. The trip can be long and tedious and a good way to break up the driving is allowing yourself enough time to explore some of the townships you may drive through such as Goondiwindi, Coonabarabran, Parkes, Forbes and Dubbo
