Tram Services

Tram travelling down St Kilda Road Melbourne has one of the largest tram and light rail networks in the world. The city's first tram began operating in 1884, which was a horse drawn carriage on a suburban line. Cable trams were introduced the following year, and Melbourne had its first electric tram in 1889.

The Victorian Government has a collection of operational trams dating from 1906, preserved for museum exhibitions or available for use on special occasions. Melbourne has just placed in operation the modern streamlined low-floor classed trams that are great for providing access to wheelchairs.
